Children’s Day is the day recognized on different days varying in different places around the world, to honor the greatest gift given by the gods i.e. children on global level. In the World Conference it was first proclaimed for the Well-being of Children in 1925 and then it was established universally in 1954. In many countries it is observed as International Day for Protection of Children on June 1 since 1950 and it was established by the Women’s International Democratic Federation on its congress in the Russian city Moscow (22 November 1949). Other major and global variants of Children’s Day includes a Universal Children’s Day on November 20 which is celebrated due to recommendation by United Nations. In India Children’s Day is celebrated on the 14th of November which coincides on the birthday, the first Prime Minister of India, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru when it became independent, he was also fondly called by the name Chacha Nehru or Uncle Nehru or just Chachaji (Uncle), he was said to emphasize on the importance of providing or giving affection and love specially to children as he considered and saw them as the bright future of India. He wanted the Indian youth to progress and enhance, that’s the reason he established educational institutes which may include Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). To honor him and give him a tribute, the nation celebrates Children’s Day or Bal Diwas on 14 November, the day he was born.
He made a plan for the span of five years which included free primary education, meals which may include milk for the school children this was done in order to prevent malnutrition in children or child population of India. Chacha’s deep love and fervor towards the children is the main reason for celebration of the Children’s Day at the anniversary of his birth. The childhood is the time when great moments in everybody’s life which should be given a right track to become one of the successful assets in the future of the country.
